Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Inca Trail – Sun Gate – Machu Picchu

Your journey begins with a scenic train ride to Km 104 (Chachabamba), where your hike along the Short Inca Trail starts. Along the way, you will visit archaeological sites such as Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna while walking through the cloud forest.

After a picnic lunch, continue hiking to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) to enjoy your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu. You will then descend to the citadel for an afternoon visit (Circuit 1) before heading to Aguas Calientes for your overnight stay.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Day 1: Cusco – Chachabamba – Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes

Your journey begins early with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco, followed by a scenic drive to Ollantaytambo. After a short stop for breakfast, you will board the train toward Km 104, the starting point of the Short Inca Trail.

From here, you will enter the trail and begin a gradual hike through the cloud forest. The first archaeological site you will explore is Chachabamba, a hidden Inca site surrounded by lush vegetation. As you continue, the trail ascends along original stone pathways, offering impressive views of the Andes and diverse flora along the route.

One of the highlights of the day is reaching Wiñay Wayna, one of the most spectacular and well-preserved Inca sites on the trail. Here, you will explore the terraces, temples, and ceremonial areas before enjoying a freshly prepared picnic lunch with mountain views.

In the afternoon, you will hike the final stretch toward the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you will experience your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu—a truly unforgettable moment and one of the most exclusive ways to arrive at the citadel.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

The second day begins early with breakfast at your hotel before heading to the bus station. You will take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu to enjoy the site in the quiet morning atmosphere.

Once inside, your guide will take you to one of the best panoramic viewpoints before starting a guided exploration of the citadel along Circuit 3 (Royal Route).

During the guided tour, you will visit the most important sectors of Machu Picchu, including the Temple of the Sun, Sacred Rock, Temple of the Condor, agricultural terraces, and residential areas, while learning about the engineering and history of the Inca civilization.

After the tour, you will have free time to explore on your own or, if you have booked in advance, hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.

In the afternoon, you will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding your train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, Our transportation will take you back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

Pre-Trek Briefing

All briefings are held at your hotel in Cusco around 5:00 PM, one or two days before your tour. The session lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

During the briefing, your guide will explain the itinerary in detail, provide your duffel bag, and answer any questions to ensure you are fully prepared.

Acclimatization in Cusco

Proper acclimatization is essential before starting your trek. Cusco is located at 3,400 m (11,150 ft) above sea level.

We recommend arriving at least 2 to 3 days in advance to help your body adjust and avoid altitude sickness.

Recommended Activities Before Your Trek

During your acclimatization days, you can enjoy light tours in the region:

Machu Picchu Entry Circuits

For Inca Trail tours, the visit is usually assigned to Circuit 3 in the morning, depending on availability.

Pick-Up Information

If your hotel is not accessible by vehicle, we will arrange a nearby meeting point.

Return from Machu Picchu

After your visit, you will take the bus to Aguas Calientes (approximately 25 minutes).

You will then take the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by transportation back to Cusco.

Please arrive at the train station 30 minutes before departure.
