Day 1: Discover Chinchero - Moray - Maras Salt Mines - Ollantaytambo and Pisac
Highlight of the Day: Explore the most iconic attractions of the Sacred Valley, from the traditional village of Chinchero and the fascinating terraces of Moray to the famous Maras Salt Mines, Ollantaytambo Fortress, and the impressive archaeological site of Pisac.
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. Leaving the city behind, we travel through the Andean highlands toward Chinchero, one of the most traditional villages in the region. Known for its colonial church, Inca foundations, and vibrant textile traditions, Chinchero offers a fascinating introduction to Andean culture and history.
During your visit, you will learn about traditional weaving techniques that have been preserved for generations while enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
We then continue to Moray and the famous Maras Salt Mines, two of the most remarkable attractions in the Sacred Valley. Moray features a series of circular terraces believed to have been used by the Incas as an agricultural research center, while the Maras Salt Mines showcase thousands of salt ponds that have been harvested by local families since pre-Inca times. Together, these sites provide a fascinating insight into Inca innovation, agriculture, and local traditions.
Continuing through the valley, we arrive at Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved Inca towns in Peru. Here, you will explore its impressive archaeological complex, massive stone terraces, ceremonial temples, and strategic defensive structures. Ollantaytambo played an important role during the resistance against the Spanish conquest and remains one of the finest examples of Inca architecture and urban planning.
After exploring Ollantaytambo, enjoy a buffet lunch in Urubamba before continuing to Pisac, home to one of the most important archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley.
Here, you will discover impressive Inca terraces, ceremonial structures, and spectacular views of the surrounding valley while learning about the site's historical significance.
After the guided visit, we return to Cusco, where our Sacred Valley with Moray and Salt Mines Tour comes to an end.
Important: Entry to Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo, and Pisac requires the Cusco Tourist Ticket (Boleto Turístico del Cusco), which is not included unless otherwise specified in your tour package. Entry to the Maras Salt Mines requires an additional entrance fee, payable directly at the site.
